California Casinos Relieved by Judge's Decision

CALIFORNIA – As reported by the Tahoe Daily Tribune: "South Shore casinos are breathing a sigh of relief for now as a Sacramento County judge ruled Wednesday that an interchange to provide access to an Indian Casino on Highway 50 west of Lake Tahoe cannot be constructed.

"The Caltrans interchange was to provide access to the 85,000-square-foot casino, hotel and restaurants planned for Shingle Springs in El Dorado County. The casino would be the closest non-Nevada property to the Stateline casinos.

"Construction of the interchange would be paid for by the Shingle Springs band of Miwok Indians, and its financial backers, a casino group called Lakes Entertainment. The casino, estimated to generate up to 15,000 more car trips a day on Highway 50, cannot be built without an interchange.

"…Judge Lloyd Connelly found a Caltrans environmental impact report for the proposed Highway 50 interchange to be insufficient…"
