California casino standards explained

INDIO, California – As reported by the Desert Sun: "The California Gambling Control Commission unveiled its proposed minimum internal control standards for Indian casinos Wednesday in a closed-door meeting with tribal officials.

"The Tribal-State Regulatory Association, made up of 66 California tribes with gambling compacts, met with the state commission at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino & Spa.

"The summit is considered significant on a state and national level.

"The standards could become a 'blueprint' to set criteria for all California tribes with Indian gaming to handle money as it flows through the casinos. Those systems cover cash handling and counting, internal audits, surveillance - even games played inside the casinos.

"Tribes, however, have noted curiosities over the timing.

"…Tribes say the timing also creates the perception their casinos lack internal control measures and oversight, when in fact, tribes have gaming commissions and compacts that spell out specific financial auditing procedures and internal controls…"
