California Casino-Goers Support Prop. 70

PALM SPRINGS, California – As reported by the Palm Springs Desert Sun: "It was 'Money Monday' at the Spa Resort Casino, and Betty Dougan waited for her turn to register for a game capable of spitting out more than $1,000 in minutes.

"Dougan's a faithful player -- so much so, she coaches anyone who sidles up to her to ask how it works. She walks several blocks from her Palm Springs home for the event, she says, for the entertainment and camaraderie from its players.

"…So, how does Dougan plan to vote on Proposition 70?

"'I say Yes on 70,' she replies, before heading into a roped-off corral where the game is played with her six-shooters.

"…A gambling counterpart, Brendan Simms, of Banning, says he's poised to vote yes on the initiative as well, even after he lost playing the game, 'Lucky Seven.'

"…Down the road a stretch, Sky Valley resident Charlie West says he is straddling the fence.

"West says the tribes have been good local contributors to charities.

"…But West says the casinos need to share their wealth with other people in the state of California. 'It should be more than 9 percent,' he remarks…"
