California Casino Environmental Report Criticized

CALIFORNIA – As reported by the (California) Appeal-Democrat: "Yuba County supervisors demanded more time Tuesday to review the environmental study for the proposed hotel-casino on Forty Mile Road, saying the document is 'fraught with errors.'

"The federal Bureau of Indian Affairs released the 4 1/2-pound environmental assessment for the Enterprise Rancheria project earlier this month and said it would accept comments through Aug. 7.

"County Public Works Director Kevin Mallen said he and Peter Calarco, the county's assistant director of Community Development, had just 10 hours to review the document.

"…Mallen and Calarco produced 34 comments -- some corrections of errors and others a more substantial analysis of the environmental assessment.

"…The Enterprise Rancheria tribe, based in Butte County, wants to open an eight-story hotel next to a 207,000-square-foot casino on 40 acres along Forty Mile Road off Highway 65…"
