California casino advisory measure proposed

CALIFORNIA -- As reported by the Press Democrat: "Sonoma County supervisors will decide Tuesday whether to put an advisory measure on future development of Indian casinos on the June 3 ballot.

"...Supervisor Mike Kerns said he is introducing the resolution for a countywide vote in response to calls from organized opponents in Rohnert Park and Cotati who challenge plans by the Federated Indians of the Graton Rancheria to build a casino west of Highway 101.

"...The Dry Creek Band of Pomo Indians operates River Rock Casino in Alexander Valley. In addition to the Graton tribe's proposal in Rohnert Park, a Cloverdale group of Pomos wants a casino in Cloverdale.

"Election officials said a county measure could cost between $58,000 and $117,000, depending on how many other measures cities and special districts put on the June 3 ballot. Already, the ballot has about two dozen candidates for three supervisorial seats that cover the west county, the central county and the Sonoma Valley..."
