California Ballot Initiative Criticized

BARSTOW, California – As reported by the Desert Dispatch: "The proponents of an Indian gaming ballot initiative are demanding that the city attorney revise her summary of it immediately.

"Former City Council member Manuel 'Gil' Gurule is threatening litigation against the city if the attorney doesn't make changes quickly to what he describes as a biased and inaccurate summary. He faxed her a letter demanding the changes Thursday.

"City spokesman John Rader said the city attorney received the letter and is evaluating it.

"He said Interim City Attorney Yvette Abich thinks she did an impartial title and summary as she is supposed to, although Gurule has opinions on how she should have handled it.

"…Gurule's letter demands that Abich complete a revised title and summary of the initiative and give it to him by the close of business today…"
