Cache Creek Casino Set to Open

CALIFORNIA – As reported by the Sacramento Bee: "Amid the rolling Capay Valley hills near roadside stands that sell honey and almonds, entertainers will soon stage nightly shows in a 600-seat cabaret at the Cache Creek Casino Resort.

"Boxing matches, bingo, a championship golf course and Chinese jugglers are planned as a backdrop to the resort's main attraction -- 2,000 slot machines and 135 gaming tables.

"After years of planning, controversy and compromise, the Rumsey Band of Wintun Indians in Yolo County is on track for an April opening of its expanded casino and hotel, which will be renamed from Cache Creek Indian Bingo & Casino.

"The 375,000-square-foot casino project will operate as a Las Vegas-style resort.

"…Last year, after public outcry from neighbors of the casino, the tribe struck a landmark deal with Yolo County, agreeing to pay more than $100 million over 18 years to help offset the off-reservation effects of its proposed casino expansion such as traffic and highway issues, litter, and increased light and noise.

"With the project rapidly nearing completion, county officials are preparing to hand over some of those mitigation funds to pay for projects that residents and county departments have requested.

"…As part of the 18-year agreement, the Rumsey Indians agreed to pay $3 million a year to Yolo County, a total that will be adjusted for inflation…"
