Cabazon Band of Mission Indians takes stand against drunk driving4 December 2013INDIO, California -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- The Cabazon Band of Mission Indians joins the fight to end drunk driving in the Coachella Valley by participating in the Silent Stand on Highway 111 on December 7th. As proud residents of the Coachella Valley, the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians pledges to do their part to end drunk driving in the community. Driving under the influence any time, for any reason, is completely unacceptable, and the tribe will hold friends, families, employees and coworkers accountable to end the epidemic and shut down drunk driving once and for all. “We support the Silent Stand on Highway 111 to remember the lives lost to the epidemic of driving under the influence and encourage all to attend,” said Cabazon Band of Mission Indians Chairman Doug Welmas. According to the Silent Stand on Highway 111 Facebook page, supporters will stand on the corner of Bob Hope Drive and Highway 111 beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 7th. Participants are encouraged to bring collages, banners and signs commemorating loved ones lost to drunk driving. The goal is the have zero DUIs for the Coachella Valley in 2014. The Cabazon Band of Mission Indians is a federally recognized Indian tribe with approximately 1,610 acres of reservation land in the Coachella Valley. The Tribe owns several business enterprises including Fantasy Springs Resort Casino. Goals include growing and diversifying its business ventures to increase employment in the Coachella Valley, increasing the support of community programs, continuing to pursue economic self-sufficiency and preserving and educating the public about Cabazon culture. |
