Businessman Sues South Carolina Over Casino Boat28 June 2004CHARLESTON, South Carolina – As reported by the Associated Press: "A Greenville businessman attempting to run a casino boat in the Lowcountry is suing two coastal governments who have turned down his requests. "Wallace Cheves, president of Palmetto Princess LLC, sought a business license at Edisto Beach, but was denied. When he tried in Georgetown County, Cheves was told zoning did not allow casino boats to operate. "Attorney Heath Taylor, representing Cheves against Edisto Beach, cites the state constitution's reference to uniformity and say a local government can't block something state law allows. "…'Casino boat gambling is legal in South Carolina,' Cheves said, pointing to cruies-to-nowhere operations at Little River Inlet in Horry County…" |
