Buffalo Official Enters Casino Negotiations11 August 2006BUFFALO, New York – As reported by the Buffalo Business First: "Buffalo Comptroller Andy SanFilippo has waded into the city's latest economic-development soap opera. He offered Friday to negotiate a suitable pact between Mayor Byron Brown and the Seneca Gaming Corp. for a planned downtown casino. "Brown last week broke off negotiations with Seneca Gaming Corp., the casino arm of the Seneca Nation of Indians, claiming the Indian tribe simultaneously presented the city with an ultimatum to sign the oft-discussed pact, while allegedly refusing to put certain conditions into legal convenants. "…At issue is a two-block stretch of little-used Fulton Street that the Senecas need to build their original design for the $125 million, 200,000-square-foot gaming venue. The Senecas have offered to pay $631,000 for that portion of Fulton Street, plus they agreed to several of Brown's other conditions, including allocating $1.7 million to market the region and casino outside of the Buffalo Niagara area. They also agreed to hire at least 50 percent of the casino's 1,000 workers from City of Buffalo residents…" |
