British punters gain new 'gateway' to Breeders' Cup betting pools

LONDON, England -- A deal has been announced that will allow Betfair clients to view the Breeders' Cup live online and place bets into American tote pools, The Guardian reported last week.

There is some question as to whether these pools will appeal to British punters because of their heavy win deductions. British punters are used to the Tote, where there's no more than a two percent over-round, the paper states.

What's not contested is the significance of this agreement which increases and extends Betfair's presence in the American gambling market. It's described as a "gateway to the future" and acknowledged in the report that international common pooling is horse racing's future.
