British Columbia's Newest Casino Opens

LANGLEY, British Columbia – As reported by the CBC News: "A new casino is opening its doors in Langley on Thursday, and city councillors are already spending the expected gaming revenues.

"Langley City is now about $11 million in debt. But the community of 25,000 expects to pay that off by 2009 with gambling revenues.

"'Once our debt is free, then we can look at doing projects that we may not have otherwise been able to do unless we raise taxes. So it's going to be a win-win situation for everyone,' says Langley City councillor Gayle Martin.

"Martin says when she was first elected 15 years ago, she couldn't imagine a casino in her community. But she says the experiences of other cities in Greater Vancouver have eased her worries…"
