Boyd Gaming Expands Sprint Service

2 December 2004

OVERLAND PARK, Kansas – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Building on an existing relationship, Sprint (NYSE: FON) today announced a new agreement to provide Boyd Gaming Corporation (NYSE: BYD) with a Nortel Communication Server 1000M IP-enabled telephone switch and dedicated maintenance, making Sprint the company's primary telecommunications provider. Boyd Gaming is one of the premier casino entertainment companies in the United States, with 18 locations in six states. Sprint and Nortel are working together to provide this solution as a part of their strategic alliance.

The installation of the Nortel Communication Server 1000M IP-enabled telephone switch was completed at the company's Stardust Hotel property and brings the property's telephone system to the current release of hardware and software. Through the new agreement, Sprint will also provide dedicated on- site maintenance for eight Boyd Gaming locations along with on-call maintenance for a facility in Mississippi.

Currently, Sprint provides Boyd Gaming local services, including ISDN and T1 lines. Long-distance services provided include audio conferencing, Internet protocol (IP) service, frame relay, asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), operator services, Sprint Ethernet(SM) Services, Sprint Online Presenter(SM) and customer premise equipment (CPE) from Visual Networks.

"Sprint's ability to provide a comprehensive solution encompassing all the communication needs of a growing casino entertainment company like Boyd Gaming was exactly what we were looking for to streamline operations," said Les Leonard, Director, Information Technology, Boyd Gaming. "Having a single, dependable telecom provider is more efficient and more reliable, allowing us to consistently provide our customers with nothing but the best."

"Sprint's recent work with Boyd Gaming on the installation of the Nortel Communication Server 1000M IP-enabled telephone switch demonstrates our strength in the Voice over IP market," said Bill Esrey, Jr., vice president, West Region - Sprint Business Solutions. "Combined with our full suite of voice and data services, Boyd is able to focus on their guests instead of managing multiple communications accounts."

Nortel Communication Server 1000 is a full-featured, server-based IP PBX that supports 10,000 IP clients per call server and call server redundancy that can be fully distributed over the IP LAN and WAN infrastructures of enterprise environments. It supports SIP IP interoperability for simplified application deployment as well as access to over 600 world-class IP telephony features and a sophisticated portfolio of business applications including unified messaging, centralized management, Web-based contact center and IVR applications.

In March 2002, Sprint and Nortel announced that they joined forces to combine the network and managed services expertise of Sprint with the voice and data equipment expertise of Nortel to deliver next-generation telephony solutions. By combining their complementary resources, Sprint and Nortel work together in sales and marketing efforts and in developing product solutions, including all aspects from engineering to maintenance. The end result is turn-key converged solutions for customers that can enhance business performance to sustain a competitive edge.
