Boyd Doubles Size of Original Project

12 May 2005

Las Vegas Sun

LAS VEGAS -- Boyd Gaming Corp.'s South Coast property hasn't even opened its doors, but today officials announced plans to double the size of the resort in southern Las Vegas.

"Demand for hotel rooms in Las Vegas has been very strong, as evidenced by the great success of our recent rooms expansion at the Orleans," said Michael Gaughan, chief executive of the Coast Casinos division of Boyd, in a statement announcing the expansion.

"While our master plan for the property calls for three hotel towers to be phased in over time, the strong market conditions convinced us that the time for building the second hotel tower is now," he said.

The expansion, which includes a spa and fitness center, will add some 700 hotel rooms, bringing the total to 1,350. The property is scheduled to open in early 2006 with the expanded area opening shortly after the first phase. Work on the addition is scheduled to begin soon, the company said.

Boyd officials said the price tag on the resort, located at Las Vegas Boulevard South and Silverado Ranch Boulevard, would grow to $600 million.
