Borgata to Begin Expansion Soon

ATLANTIC CITY – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "Borgata made good on its reputation as the casino to beat in Atlantic City, muscling its way to the top of the pack in its first year of operation.

"In just five months, Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa will start building on its very successful year with an aggressive expansion.

"Casino co-owner Boyd Gaming announced Wednesday during a second-quarter earnings conference call the details of the expansion, much of which had been speculated on for months.

"The $200 million, 500,000-square-foot expansion, to be built on land owned by Boyd partner MGM Mirage, will include 600 slot machines, 92 gaming and poker tables, four restaurants and six retail shops, Borgata CEO Robert Boughner said.

"…Borgata 'is exceeding our expectations both in how fast its revenues and earnings are ramping up and in how quickly we need to expand the property,' Boyd Chairman and CEO William S. Boyd said.

"…Construction on the expansion is scheduled to begin in December and the project is expected to open during the second quarter of 2006.

"A second phase of construction is said to be in the planning stages and would add between 600 and 1,000 hotel rooms to the 2,010-room casino…"
