Borgata handed largest fine for underage gambling

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey -- As reported by the New Jersey Star Ledger: "He was issued a Borgata player's card -- account number 1549803 -- while playing the slots one day in August.

"...In little more than a year, he earned more than $1,000 in comps while playing various table games, mostly blackjack. In all, he bought more than $34,000 worth of chips and lost $9,000 to the house.

"... That was before a dealer discovered he was 19 -- too young to legally gamble.

"Now Borgata, the casino that brought a hip, youthful image to a dowdy Atlantic City, will pay the price.

"Yesterday the Casino Control Commission ordered Borgata to pay a $105,000 penalty -- the largest fine imposed in an underage gambling case -- for not stopping the 19-year-old sooner.

"...In addition, Borgata was penalized $75,000 for serving drinks to a group of teens -- two of them 15 years old -- at its B Bar..."
