Borgata Conducting Car Searched

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City - The Las Vegas-style Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa is renowned for pampering its guests in opulent surroundings. But now it is asking gamblers to do it a favor: Pop open your trunks, please.

"Security concerns apparently stemming from the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks have prompted the newest casino in town to conduct random searches of cars pulling into its valet parking lot.

"The Casino Control Commission said it knew of no other Atlantic City casino conducting similar vehicle searches, but noted that the gaming industry has ramped up security in other ways since the terror attacks.

"…A Borgata spokesman said vehicle searches have been done periodically ever since the billion-dollar megaresort opened on July 2, 2003, and are part of normal security. He insisted that no threats have been made against the casino.

"…Borgata's valet parking area is of particular concern for possible car-bombings because it is located underneath the building…"
