Borgata Again Lifts Gaming Win13 April 2004ATLANTIC CITY -- New Jersey's casinos won 4.3 percent more last month than they did in March 2003, but the boost was due mainly to the addition of the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa to the market, according to data released Monday. The 2,002-room Borgata, which opened last July, won $47.9 million from gamblers, according to the state Casino Control Commission. Every other casino saw revenue drop compared with March 2003, ranging from 1.4 percent at Showboat Casino-Hotel to 14.5 percent at the Atlantic City Hilton. The 12 casinos won $287.4 million at the slot machines and $101.7 million at blackjack, roulette, craps and other table games. Table game revenue was up 9.3 percent, while slot machine revenue increased by 2.6 percent as compared to March 2003, the Commission said. Bally's Atlantic City posted the highest casino revenue figure -- $55 million -- for March 2004, but that figure was down 6.8 percent from the same month last year. For the year, New Jersey's casinos have won $1.14 billion, a 13.7 percent boost over the first quarter of 2003. |
