Boomtown zoning decision delayed

BILOXI, Mississippi -- As reported by the Biloxi Sun Herald: "Boomtown Casino management has to wait at least two weeks longer to learn if the Biloxi City Council will rezone neighboring property from residential to waterfront.

"The council voted 5-2 at Tuesday's meeting to table the zoning request. Councilman Bill Stallworth said after the meeting, 'I want to see a plan.' He represents Ward 2, where the property is located, and said residents are still looking to move back into the area.

"...Boomtown attorney Michael Cavanaugh was surprised by the vote.

"Boomtown had asked the council to rezone 11.25 acres of property adjacent to the Back Bay casino from RS-5 single family residential-high density and B-4 general business to waterfront. The 39 lots were purchased after Hurricane Katrina and Cavanaugh said waterfront zoning would make it consistent with the original Boomtown property..."
