Bookies Suspend Betting on Rugby Team30 June 2004SYDNEY, Australia – As reported by New Zealand Stuff: "National Rugby League (NRL) frontrunners the Sydney Roosters deny they are in salary cap trouble after bookmakers reported a massive plunge on their chances of winning the wooden spoon yesterday. "Australian betting agency SportsTab suspended betting on the odds of the Roosters eventually finishing the 2004 season bottom after almost $A30,000 ($NZ33,156) was placed on the competition favourites yesterday. "A Sportstab spokesman said the plunge started after a talkback caller rang a Sydney sports radio station (2KY) claiming the Roosters were in salary cap trouble. "The Roosters, who currently lead the competition by two points, swiftly shortened from 500-to-1 to 50-to-1.
