Bookie, Punters Fined for Taking Bets Via Internet

MIRI, Malaysia -- As reported by the Brunei Press: "A soccer bookie was on Friday fined RM30,000 in default 12 months' jail whilst two punters fined RM2,000 each in default one month's jail for taking bets via the internet on Euro 2004 soccer on July 5 last year.

"...Meanwhile, 19 others arrested together with the trio at a condominium near the Miri Golf Course, in the Malay Peninsula just minutes before the end of the final between Portugal and Greece were discharged and acquitted of the charge by magistrate Zulhelmy Hasan.

"...It was disclosed then they had received bets online from people in several Asian countries, totaling about RM2 million per match throughout the tournament..."
