Boogie Nights at Tropicana hosts superhero-themed HERO Campaign event24 June 2015(PRESS RELEASE) -- “Be a HERO, Be a Designated Driver.” That’s the motto for the John R. Elliott HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers. The message is simple, and Boogie Nights at the Tropicana Atlantic City Casino & Resorthas joined the campaign to spread the word by hosting a superhero-themed fundraiser Thursday, July 2, 2015. Thursday is typically '90s Night, where partygoers are invited to break out their skorts, hammer pants and grunge flannel and cut loose to their favorite '90s tunes. But on July 2nd, there is a different dress code in mind. Power Rangers, Men in Black, Batman… oh my! It’s time to dust off your superhero costumes, because in true “hero” fashion, Boogie Nights is inviting you to dress as your favorite '90s action superhero in support of the HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers! “We are excited to continue our partnership with the HERO Campaign,” says Steve Callender, general manager of Tropicana Casino & Resort. “Drunk driving is a serious issue, especially at this time of year. It feels good that by doing something so light-hearted and fun we are raising awareness and funds for such a worthy cause.” Admission is $5 and 100 percent of the proceeds from the cover charge collected between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. will be donated to the HERO Campaign. And this night (or any given night at Boogie Nights), designated drivers can request a wristband to receive complimentary nonalcoholic beverages. “We are pleased to have the Tropicana and Boogie Nights support and promote the HERO Campaign and our efforts to save lives through the use of safe designated drivers,” said Bill Elliott, chairman of the HERO Campaign. The HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers was established in memory of Navy Ensign John Elliott of Egg Harbor Township, who was killed by a drunken driver in July 2000, two months after graduating from the United States Naval Academy. Alcohol-related crashes kill 13,000 Americans each year and injure 25,000 more, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Commission numbers cited by the campaign. The HERO Campaign has been a priceless resource in promoting the use of designated drivers statewide. The organization, based at Stockton University in Galloway Township, N.J., is in the midst of it 100,000 HEROES program, in which it seeks to register 100,000 designated drivers nationwide.
