Blue Chip Employees Ratify Contract

MICHIGAN – As reported by the Michigan City News-Dispatch: "Details of the contracts for members of UNITE HERE Local 1 at Northwest Indiana casinos were released Thursday.

"On Wednesday night, workers at Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City voted by a 97 percent margin to ratify a tentative agreement reached last week, averting a strike at the casino.

"'They were the one with the highest 'yes' vote,' said UNITE HERE Local 1 spokeswoman Clare Fauke.

"She said the union was happy with the contract.

"…Boyd Gaming, which owns Blue Chip, said it, too, was pleased.

"…Blue Chip joins Harrah's in East Chicago and Trump and Majestic Star casinos in Gary in ratifying new five-year contracts. Settlements at each casino represent significant improvements in the economic package and job protection for service workers…"
