Blue Chip Casino, Union Reaches Agreement

MICHIGAN – As reported by the Michigan City News-Dispatch: "After more than 12 hours of negotiations, UNITE HERE Local 1 and Blue Chip Casino reached an agreement late Wednesday night.

"The tentative agreement is the last of four agreements with Northwest Indiana casinos and Local 1. The union represents 850 workers at Harrah's in East Chicago, Trump Casino and Majestic Star Casino in Gary and Blue Chip, where 250 service workers are members.

"…Details of the agreement, said UNITE HERE Local 1 spokeswoman Clare Fauke, cannot be revealed until employees have had a chance to vote.

"…Workers will review the agreement and vote to ratify the contract next week.

"…The top issue during negotiations were wages and benefits, especially health insurance…"
