Blue Chip Casino Afloat

10 June 2005

MICHIGAN CITY, Indiana – As reported by the South Bend Tribune: "Proclaimed the largest U.S. Coast Guard certified vessel in the country, the new Blue Chip Casino is now afloat.

"What now weighs more than 6,000 tons lifted off the bottom of a man-made channel beside Trail Creek this week.

"With 3,000 gallons of creek water still being pumped into the basin per minute, the 402-foot by 208-foot mass of steel that's still under construction should rise to the desired level above the 16 feet deep bottom by week's end, said Bob Marra, projects director for Boyd Gaming, the Las Vegas-based firm that owns the Michigan City riverboat.

"At completion by the end of the year, the vessel will contain four levels and weigh 10,000 tons, well over two times the square footage as the present boat that first opened in 1997, Marra said.

"The bottom two levels will contain the engine room and other features related to the boat's operation…"
