SPARKS, Nevada -- As reported by the Reno Gazette-Journal: "Workers cleared out a warehouse last week in Sparks, where John Ascuaga's Nugget had stored many relics of its 53-year history.

"The boss himself, John Ascuaga, was supervising. Much of the memorabilia was headed to the Nugget's new $2 million warehouse off Rock Boulevard. Eventually, some of it will head to the auction block, while some will go to the Sparks Museum, Ascuaga said.

"...The Nugget celebrates its 53rd anniversary Monday — 53 years to the day after Dick Graves opened a 60-seat cafe-casino called the Nugget, which was managed by Ascuaga, on B Street in Sparks.

"...Since then, the Nugget has grown into one of Northern Nevada's largest resorts.

"...Much of the memorabilia had to do with the grand old floor shows that Ascuaga would stage..."
