Blackpool's super casino odds cut

BLACKPOOL, England – As reported by the Bloomberg: "…Blackpool, where `For Sale' signs are nailed to boarded-up Victorian guesthouses, is competing for the license to run the U.K.'s first super-casino, which would be five times bigger than any gambling venue in the country. Local leaders want to build a 450 million-pound, Las Vegas-style hotel and casino complex to revive a resort that once drew families from throughout the U.K.

"…London and Glasgow, Scotland, also want the casino license. The Casino Advisory Panel, an independent adviser to the government, will make its recommendation Jan. 30. Parliament will vote on the final decision later this year.

"…Paddy Power Plc, Ireland's largest bookmaker, cut the odds on Blackpool winning the license Supercasino to 8/11 from 11/10 ahead of the Dome in Greenwich after `a flood of large bets were placed,' the company said in a statement today.

"`Winning the license would firmly put Blackpool back on the map as one of the U.K.'s major tourist attractions and guarantee an injection of life back into the Lancashire town,' Paddy Power spokeswoman Sharon McHugh said…"
