Blackpool Shortlisted for Super-Casino

UNITED KINGDOM – As reported by the UK Stage: "Supporters of Blackpool's bid to host the UK's first ever regional super-casino have welcomed its inclusion on to the shortlist of eight possible locations, but warned that the future of the town's development still 'hangs in the balance.'

"Former managing director of Leisure Parcs and gaming consultant Mark Etches said he was thrilled that Blackpool had made the Casino Advisory Panel's shortlist - which also includes fellow front-runners Glasgow and Manchester - from the initial 27. However, he added that the government's restriction of allowing just one regional casino would have severe repercussions for the seven that lose out, especially Blackpool.

He explained: 'I am of course delighted that Blackpool is there, but there is no certainty in these situations - as Paris knows to its cost. It would be a travesty if the town loses out but, if the government does not increase the number of licences available, Blackpool's future hangs in the balance.'…"
