Binion Dealers File Suit, Complaint24 May 2002LAS VEGAS -- A dozen dealers at the World Series of Poker, who say they were fired Tuesday by Binion's Horseshoe casino, retaliated Thursday with a lawsuit in Clark County District Court and a complaint to the National Labor Relations Board. The dealers say Binion's owner Becky Behnen violated a verbal agreement to pay the dealers 1.5 percent of the prize pool funds as a tip. Behnen declined comment on the lawsuit. In their NLRB complaint, the dealers said they were "unlawfully discharged ... because of their protected activities in negotiating the terms and conditions of employment including a guaranteed percentage of gratuities." Behnen disputed those claims. "The 12 dealers weren't fired. They know they are just temporary help who will be discharged over the course of the tournament. We've discharged more than 100 of 200 temporary dealers since Monday," she said. |
