Bingo website ad banned for presenting negative racial stereotype

17 March 2010

LONDON, England -- A TV ad for Tombola Bingo website has been banned by the advertising watchdog for "negative racial stereotyping", The Guardian reports.

In the advert a black man playing a ukelele repeats everything an older white man in a suit says, the Guardian report said.

The advertising watchdog said the advert could be "interpreted as humiliating, stigmatising or undermining the standing of the black character and was therefore likely to cause serious offence", The Guardian reported.

The watchdog cautioned Tombola that their future adverts should not present negative racial stereotypes, The Guardian said.
