Biloxi Postpones Casino Decision

BILOXI, Mississippi – As reported by the Mississippi Sun-Herald: "The Biloxi City Council on Tuesday tabled for two weeks a decision on whether to allow construction of a man-made basin for a speculative casino venture after Secretary of State Eric Clark raised objections.

"Back Bay Investments wants to create a casino site on uplands on the north side of Back Bay Boulevard. A similar project on the same property received approvals from the city and the Gaming Commission 10 years ago but never went forward.

"Clark objects because of questions as to whether Back Bay will have to enter into a tidelands lease and pay the state lease money.

"…Clark sent the letter to the city, the Gaming Commission, the Department of Marine Resources, Attorney General Jim Hood and the Coast legislative delegation. He asked the council to delay a decision until questions about a tidelands lease are resolved…"
