Biloxi Casino Project Rejected

BILOXI, Mississippi – As reported by the Biloxi Sun Herald: "The Biloxi City Council recorded a hat trick Tuesday.

"In unanimous votes, the council denied a Back Bay casino project, a subdivision development in North Biloxi and a high-rise condominium on U.S. 90.

"All three projects were opposed by people in neighborhoods surrounding the proposed developments.

"…Back Bay Investments sought to create a casino site on uplands on the north side of Back Bay Boulevard, but Clark sent a letter to the council expressing concerns. He contends the project would set a precedent because the casino would not have to obtain a tidelands lease from the state. Money from the leases is used for piers and parks, marine education programs and environmental projects.

"However, lawyers for the casino pointed out that Casino Magic Bay St. Louis has a gambling barge in a man-made basin and has no tidelands lease…"
