Big Lottery Jackpots Up for Grabs

6 February 2004

CALGARY, Alberta – As reported by the Calgary Herald: "Lotto counters have been doing a brisk business in Super-7 tickets this week with an estimated $32.5 million up for grabs tonight and Casino patrons have been pumping coins into the Double Diamond slot machines, playing for close to $1 million, the highest payoff in the progressive jackpot's history.

"'We've sold about double the number of tickets this week as we normally do,' said Stanley Cha, owner of Stanley Jones convenience store on the corner of 8th Avenue and 6th Street N.E. "Today, I had one customer buy $110 worth of Lotto-649 and Super-7 tickets."

"…If $1 million would be enough to satisfy your material needs, all five casinos in town offer a shot at easy street on the Double Diamond slots.

"There are 30 Double Diamond machines at Calgary's casinos connected to a provincewide network. The total jackpot increases with every coin dropped into a slot in Alberta.

"…'This is the biggest jackpot we've ever had on those machines,' said Phil Bates, general manager of Casino Calgary. 'The highest jackpot I've ever seen someone win (on the Double Diamonds) is about $700,000 and change about a year and a half ago.'…"
