Beverly Hillbillies Mansion & Casino clears hurdle

RENO, Nevada -- As reported by the Reno Gazette-Journal: "Proposed construction of Jethro Bodine's "Beverly Hillbillies" Mansion & Casino passed another hurdle Thursday as the second reading of a key measure again passed the Douglas County Commission on a 3-2 vote.

"But discussion of the casino's proposed oil derrick prop and electronic sign board was delayed until Dec. 6 after representatives of developer Max Baer Jr. asked for more time to come up with alternate designs. The derrick, which could be up to 200 feet tall, has been a sticking point since negotiations began. Commissioners are expected to ask for a compromise.
