Bethlehem casino foes create defence fund

PENNSYLVANIA – As reported by the Morning Call: "Even if Las Vegas Sands gets a state gambling license, it may still have to fight to build a casino in Bethlehem.

"Late Tuesday, opponents of the $350 million casino project announced they created a legal defense fund and have hired attorneys to fight the project every step of the way.

"But exactly who is funding the effort and how much money they have will remain a mystery, according to Timothy Stevens, an Allentown attorney who has been retained, along with Bethlehem attorney James D. Rawlings II.

"…The announcement was sent out the day before Las Vegas Sands is scheduled to appear before the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to pitch its plans for a casino, hotel and shopping complex that would be built on 126 acres of former Bethlehem Steel land in south Bethlehem…"
