Beloit Casino Affected by Bill

MADISON, Wisconsin – As reported by the Beloit Daily News: "The Wisconsin Assembly's approval of a bill that would take away the governor's authority to approve off-reservation casinos could impact plans for a casino in Beloit.

"Currently, the authority for approving off-reservation tribal casinos resides solely with the governor. Republicans introduced Assembly Bill 461 in June, which requires legislative approval, but budget discussions had delayed action by the two chambers.

"Some local legislators are not pleased with the bill, which they say meddles with an established process and could potentially hurt Beloit's chances for a casino.

"…Supporters of the Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Tribe of Chippewa and the St. Croix Chippewa's proposal for a casino and convention center in Beloit have been critical of the bill, which they say could slow an already laborious process…"
