Beer me an edition of The Reel Life

7 April 2011

The Reel Life once tried to give up the online slots for Lent. We lasted four days. This is why we need to give props to an Iowa man’s brilliant idea of drinking only beer and water for Lent.

J. Wilson says he is a nondenominational Christian. He is celebrating Lent this year by doing something Bavarian monks did hundreds of years ago. He is giving up solid food and only drinking beer and water.

Wilson isn't a wino or a degenerate alcoholic. He is a husband, father, newspaper editor and a major beer enthusiast who runs his own beer blog. He also brews his own beer.

According to CNN, "there are doctor's visits during the fast... (Wilson) even bulked up beforehand, knowing he would lose weight."

His wife fully supports him as well as his boss, who keeps a keg at the office.

CNN says Wilson's daily routine is something like this: "Each morning, Wilson pours himself a 12-ounce Illuminator Doppelbock for breakfast. Then another at lunch, a 3:15 p.m. snack and finally a beer around 7:15 p.m., once he is home and settled in with the family. Each beer has about 288 calories and is about 6.7% alcohol he said."

The Reel Life wishes to applaud J. Wilson for his brilliant idea and will be rooting him on until Easter. The world would certainly be a better place if we had more forward thinkers like him.

Get in the fast lane grandma, the Bingo game is ready to roll!

Nothing scary about this new slot machine

Vampires, bats and gargoyles provide the ominous theme for Slotland’s new Jewels of the Ancients slot machine. The ghoulish 19-payline slot machine has jewels, treasure maps and mystical goblets. There is a bonus game with extra cash prizes up to $1,000.

Until April 10, all players that log on to will find an extra $12 deposited in their account just to try out the new Jewels of the Ancients game and every spin on the new game will earn one ticket in a free Vampire Draw. On April 13 one randomly selected player will win $500, another two players will receive $250 each, seven will get $100 each and 10 more lucky players will win $50 each.

Like all of the slot machines at Slotland, Jewels of the Ancients is tied to the site’s progressive jackpot which is currently about $90,000.
