BC First nations to set up gambling body

30 June 2010

BRITISH COLUMBIA -- Frustrated by what they term the province's lack of sharing of lottery revenues, B.C. first nations will establish their own gambling authority, The Vancouver Sun reported.

Currently the BC government under the auspices of the B.C. Lottery Corporation control all gambling, the report said.

B.C. first nations bands are angered by the plan to build a new $500 million casino in Falls Creek, while the government continues to stall on engaging with them, the report said.

If necessary the group said they are willing to go to the Supreme Court, The Vancouver Sun reported.

Currently there is only one first nations-run casino in the province, the report noted.
