BC City Wants Casino Redesignated5 March 2004PRINCE GEORGE – As reported by the Prince George Free Press: "The city stands to lose almost $1 million (US$756,859)a year in gaming revenues unless it can convince the B.C. Lottery Corporation to re-designate Casino Hollywood a 'destination casino' when it moves this summer. "The casino, currently located downtown, is designated a 'community casino' from which the city receives a 10 per cent cut of the profits. "…Under lottery corporation rules, municipalities hosting a destination casino receive 16 per cent of profits, he said. "But so far the lottery corporation has refused to change the designation of the Prince George casino. "…Gaming revenues yielded a $1.632 million grant to the city in 2003, according to budget figures being considered this week. "Based on that figure, a six per cent increase in the city's cut would add over $800,000 to the grant…" |
