BC Casino Denied Liquor License

VICTORIA, British Columbia – As reported by the Goldstream Gazette: "…Plugging the slots while downing a beer is still a no-go at Victoria's only casino after View Royal refused to support its bid for a new liquor licence Tuesday.

"View Royal council lauded Great Canadian Casinos as a good corporate citizen, but unanimously denied its application to sell and serve drinks on its gaming floor.

"Council opposed the application for varying reasons, but left the door open to future applications in its ruling, saying it couldn't support a licence 'at this time.'

"The B.C. Liquor Control and Licencing Branch has the final say on a licence, but said it wouldn't move without View Royal's consent. The Town holds another trump card: existing zoning doesn't allow for a liquor-primary licence on the land.

"…Howard Blank, Great Canadian Casino's spokesperson, said the 35,000-square -foot casino will try again with different ideas, including how entertainment venues might be incorporated into the 'limited footprint" of the property.'…"
