Bay City officials ready to bet on casino5 December 2006MICHIGAN – As reported by the Bay City Times: "Bay City commissioners said Monday they are willing to roll the dice on a casino at the Uptown at RiversEdge site. "Several commissioners who previously said they would not support a casino changed their opinions, saying a groundswell of local support swayed them. "…To get the ball rolling, the City Commission on Monday voted unanimously to support the formation of a public-private partnership that would help develop the southern portion of the Uptown at RiversEdge site. Commissioner James F. Flannery, 4th Ward, was absent from the meeting. The northern portion of the site may become a Maritime Heritage Center. "This means a group of private businesspeople, led by Bay City businessman Arthur P. Dore and developer Paul Rowley, will gather to formulate a plan for the partnership. The group have been meeting with city staff since late spring, though the idea of a partnership has been bandied about for years, said Steven G. Black, deputy city manager of community development.
