Battle of Casinos Headed for TV

NEBRASKA – As reported by the Lincoln Journal Star: ``Television stations in particular, and cable channels as well, must be looking ahead to Nebraska's great gambling debate this fall.

``…If Nebraska voters are about to confront three gambling choices on this November's ballot, all of which affect Las Vegas gambling interests, imagine the money about to be spent on TV advertising here.

``Choice 1: Approve the Legislature's proposal to authorize up to two casinos in the state, a plan supported by the Venetian casino.

``Choice 2: Approve an initiative petition proposal - likely to reach the ballot - authorizing two casinos in Omaha, slot machine parlors along two major highways and video gambling in bars throughout the state. That plan has the support of a wide range of gambling interests, including Coast Casinos.

``Choice 3: Reject both plans, a course of action certain to be favored by Harrah's and Ameristar, the two big casinos across the river from Omaha in Council Bluffs…"
