Barstow Development Halted

BARSTOW, California – As reported by the Victorville Daily Press: "Due to a confusing City Council directive, the city of Barstow temporarily stopped supporting one of the two major casino developments proposed for the community.

"At Monday night's City Council meeting, the council took up the list of legislative priorities Barstow would present to the state and federal governments for 2006. One page of the list was devoted to garnering support for the two casino projects involving three California tribes proposed for the Barstow area.

"Last year's list of legislative priorities asked the California legislature to support compacts for any Indian tribes negotiating to come to Barstow. However, the priority list for 2006 specifically asked the legislature to support agreements for the three tribes — Los Coyotes, Big Lagoon Rancheria, and the Chemehuevi — who are currently pursuing plans for casinos in Barstow…"
