Barstow Compacts Expected Soon

BARSTOW, California – As reported by the California Desert Dispatch: "Representatives of Michigan-based BarWest LLC and two Indian tribes told City Council members Monday night that they expect to receive compacts within a couple weeks for a two-casino project in Barstow.

"If approved, the Los Coyotes Band of Indians and the Big Lagoon Rancheria tribes would build casinos next to each other on a site along Lenwood Road.

"…Virgil Moorehead, chairman of the Big Lagoon Rancheria, said his tribe has successfully completed compact negotiations with the state.

"A compact for either tribe hasn't yet been announced or signed by the governor, so nothing is official yet -- but that news is coming, Lance Boldrey, an attorney representing BarWest, said.

"The site will be divided equally between the two tribes, Bill Serwer, another attorney representing BarWest, said at the meeting. The dual casino project as planned is unique in the Indian gaming world…"
