Barstow Casino Report Released14 September 2006BARSTOW, California – As reported by Desert Dispatch: "A scoping report that summarizes the environmental and other issues to be faced before a proposed American Indian dual casino hotel could be built here has been released to the public. "The report by the U. S. Department of Interior's Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) came out of public meetings, including one held here on May 4. It describes the proposed project and four alternatives. "Using the report as a guide the BIA will prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and the tribe and band will prepare a Tribal Environmental Impact Report (TEIR) that will assess the off-reservation environmental impacts of the proposed casino. "…The Los Coyotes Band of Cahilla and Cupeno Indians and the Big Lagoon Rancheria propose to built two comparably designed hotels on Lenwood Avenue near the outlet malls. If the project succeeds, the land on which the casino stands would become Indian trust, or reservation, land. "The proposed alternatives are: a dual casino here, a smaller dual casino here, a casino to be built in Humboldt County, a casino to be built in San Diego County, or no casino to be built at all…" |
