Barden nixed temporary casino idea21 November 2006HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania – As reported by the Pittsburgh Business Times: "The Detroit businessman who wants to build a casino on Pittsburgh's North Shore told gaming regulators on Tuesday that his site is the best location and can most quickly generate gaming revenue for the city of Pittsburgh. "Don Barden, the chairman and CEO of PITG Gaming LLC, said his 17-acre site has access to major highways, is buffered from residential neighborhoods and will provide $350 million in economic development funds for the Hill District. "Calling on his knowledge of the gaming industry from his hometown of Detroit, Barden said his team is nixing the idea of a temporary casino, which his two competitors say they will build in Pittsburgh should they win the casino license. "…Barden is proposing to have a permanent casino up and running by March 2008. He said the accelerated 14-month schedule will more quickly create gaming revenue for property tax relief in Pennsylvania than would a 9-month schedule to build a temporary casino…" |
