Barden Files for Racetrack License

30 June 2004

MICHIGAN – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: "Don Barden, a Detroit resident with casino holdings in Las Vegas; Gary, Indiana; Tunica, Mississippi; and Blackhawk, Colorado, recently filed his fifth application with the Michigan Office of the Racing Commissioner to open a racetrack-casino in the state.

"Barden filed his most recent application on Monday, which calls for a $150-million facility located along Interstate 94 in Romulus. Magna Entertainment Corp. has already filed an application to build Michigan Downs, a $100-million track, which could include a retail and entertainment complex, near the town, which is a suburb of Detroit, and residents approved the proposed track in a special election in December.

"Barden's complex would encompass 135 acres and include restaurants, meeting areas, a 2,700-space parking structure, and 450 employees, 170 of whom would work full time, the Detroit Free Press reports."
