B.C. Government Admits to Breaking Gambling Promise

19 November 2004

VICTORIA, British Columbia – As reported by the CBC: "The B.C. government has finally admitted what it's been denying for weeks -- that it's broken its election promise not to allow expanding gambling.

"The government is allowing more than 5,000 new slot machines across B.C., and have boosted their take from gambling by more than $300 million a year.

"The minister responsible for the change, Solicitor General Rich Coleman, defends the government's actions.

"…But Coleman also admits the change represents a broken promise.

"…B.C. spends less than one per cent of its gambling revenue on helping those with a gaming addiction. And Coleman says that's good enough."
