Aztar Plans $325 Million Casino15 November 2005ALLENTOWN, Pennsylvania – As reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer: "Aztar Corp. today announced plans for a casino on a former manufacturing site here that will open initially with 3,000 slot machines, a 250-room hotel and about a dozen restaurants and lounges. "Executives of Aztar, of Phoenix, said they would spend about $325 million for the first phase of the project with room to expand later. That first phase would also include a 5,000-square-foot theater and a 15,000-square-foot executive conference center. "Aztar now owns about 5 acres and has an agreement to buy an additional 43 acres from Agere Systems Inc., an Allentown maker of semiconductors for the telecommunications industry. The land is the site of the former operations of Western Electric and AT&T Corp. "…Aztar intends to apply to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board for a license once it closes on the land purchase, according to Robert Haddock, its chairman, president and CEO…" |
