Aztar Hit With Sex-Bias Suit

2 March 2004

INDIANA -- As reported by the Courier and Press news: ``A former Casino Aztar supervisor is suing the gaming company for sex discrimination, claiming management retaliated against her after she complained about being pressured to hire large-breasted women as cocktail waitresses and investigated a claim that one of the waitresses had been attacked by a casino manager. Suzanne F. Jerger of Newburgh filed the claim in U.S. District Court late last week.

``In colorful and sometimes censored language, Jerger alleges that management on the riverboat casino routinely condoned a hostile work environment where casino cocktail waitresses were routinely subject to "unrelenting sexual harassment, demeaning comments, inappropriate leering, and highly offensive sexual remarks" by their male supervisors. Jerger alleges that she was admonished for failing to hire women "with large racks" and/or who were "spinners." She also claims that an Aztar manager had a forced sexual encounter with a casino waitress, and that Jerger was disciplined when she attempted to verify the incident.

``…Casino Aztar's attorney, Patrick Shoulders said Jerger's allegations are "without merit" and that his law firm 'has been authorized by our client to vigorously defend them against these allegations.'…"
